                              About the Artist Ed Tajchman

A good deal of the philosophy behind my work can be understood by reading my blog -  Modern Art Quotes. It's my own commentary and viewpoint on various subjects, bounced off the great ideas and quotes of artists, philosophers, musicians, mystics, or whoever. I will talk a little bit here about my art philosophy though, also - my influences, and a short biography.

I've been doodling, drawing, and creating since I was a small child.  When I started high-school I was beginning to feel very average, like there was nothing I really excelled at. I was fortunate enough though, to have good art teachers who honestly saw a lot of potential in me and told me so. This is when I really started to take my doodles and creativity more seriously.

I took mostly art classes the rest of high-school and took some private classes also, and have been drawing and painting fairly regularly since then (now age 30). After high-school I was lucky enough to stumble into the field of custom picture framing, in which I have more than seven years experience. From cutting the long strips of wood for the frame and building it, to mat & frame design, color theory, to mounting methods, archival framing, high-end sales and a lot more, the lessons I learned in this field were enormous. I could easily see myself having a gallery and frameshop in the future.

I strive to create expressions, reflections, interpretations, and visions of the soul. to dig for that unconscious, super-conscious, instinctual, intuitive, universal, individual expression that is inside all of us. In my journey these are some of the things i have learned and want to share:

 •  First of all, simply, making art is what keeps me sane, or happy anyways. Part of why I create is out of a genuine need to, it's a staple in my life that I enjoy.  One of Joseph Campbell's themes is "follow your bliss" and that is exactly what I'm doing when I am creating.   The soul is an energy body that can move separate from the physical body, and moves on after the body dies.  Some dreams are very real and the dreaming world can be a training ground for consciousness. To quote the comedian Bill Hicks: "'... all matter is merely energy condensed into a slow vibration;'....'we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There is no such thing as death: life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.'"

I take great pride in my individual style and know i have a truly unique voice to share with not just the art world but the whole world and beyond. I hate labels, but in my work I combine elements of subjectivity, non-representation, surrealism, meta-physics, neo-expressionism, shaman-ism, minimalism, abstract expressionism, amongst other things. As said, my style is uniquely individual, but some of my influences are, artistically: - Van Gogh, Kandinsky, Jackson Pollack, Mark Rothko, Basquiat. Philosophical Influences: Terrence Mckenna, Alex Grey, Joseph Campbell, Carl Jung, Carlos Castaneda. Music is important to me and my creative process, musical interests are: Neil Young, Tom Waits, Tool, Phish, Grateful Dead, Patti Smith, REM, classical music, bebop jazz, blues, and any good music. Although I've always been a visual person I like literature, poetry, and writing. Literary influences are: Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, E.E. Cummings, Rimbaud, William Burroughs, Robert Jordan, Leonard Cohen. Also a very amateur movie buff, my favorite directors are Jim Jarmusch (Dead Man), David Lynch, Tim Burton.

My goal is to share my vision, my knowledge, my experiences, my soul energy through my expression and learn from others, working towards an individual but shared vision of a better reality. If you want, you can help my me, my vision, and my art out by making a donation:
